OSRIC™ represents a compilation of rules for old school-style fantasy gaming. The book is intended to reproduce underlying rules used in the late 1970s to early 1980s, which being rules are not subject to copyright, without using any of the copyrighted "artistic presentation" originally used to convey those rules. In creating this new "artistic presentation," the OSRIC editorial team, headed up by Stuart Marshall (a.k.a.; Papers-and-Paychecks), has made use of the System Reference Document produced by Wizards of the Coast.
The documentation is for the First Edition game designer what d20 is/was for the Third Edition designer. Mr. Marshall has made the PDF download of OSRIC free of charge. A printed book-form of OSRIC v.2 is due to be released in 2008. Usherwood Publishing heartily recommends OSRIC for anyone wishing to develop, distrubute, and sell works intended for the First Edition gamer. The "OSRIC movement" is also being supported by a number of third party developers, like Usherwood Publishing, who are producing new modules and expansion materials for the First Edition gamer. A small selection of these products are presented below. You might also click here to search RPGNow.com for all products tagged for use with the OSRIC system.
